The former USSR Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1932, and the CCI of Armenian SSR was founded in 1960. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the independent Republic of Armenia started to develop since 1992. In the October of 2001 the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia passed the law “About the Chambers of Commerce and Industry”.
Today ’ s Chamber of Commerce and Industry of RA (CCI RA) was formed in the constitutive congress according to the law on April 23, 2002. The law mentioned above grants the CCI RA with exclusive rights to solve numerous businesses related issues like certification of force major circumstances, as well as rendering firsthand information like Statement on Reliability of trade companies in Armenia and abroad.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia renders a wide spectrum of professional services, including consulting on issues of outer trade and markets valuation, implements independent expertise of the goods, offers business and juridical information to the Armenian and foreign entrepreneurs, organizes conferences, seminars, exhibitions in Armenia as well as abroad.
According to the RA Law “ On Chambers of Commerce and Industry ” the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia (CCI RA) represents the interests of its members in the issues concerned with entrepreneurial activities in many countries of the world; in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), European Chamber, International Association of Industrial Property Protection, International Bureau of Exhibitions, International Labor Organization as well as other international organizations.

Pursuant to the decree of the President of RA, the Armenian Development Agency (ADA) was established in 1998 and operates under the direct supervision of the State Council of RA for promotion and protection of investments. The ADA is administrated by a Board of Directors, chaired by the Prime Minister of the RA, with general policy guidance and oversight provided by a Board of Trustees.
ADA aims to facilitate productive investment flows into Armenian industry, and export development. ADA conducts studies, publishes and trade fairs, as well as finance export activities of Armenian enterprises.
ADA is the main national intermediary for bridging gaps between policy development and implementation, public and private sectors of economy, institutional infrastructure in Armenia and abroad.

ADA acts as an executing/implementing organization for WB and UN funded programs:
The One stop shop Program;
The Enterprise Support Fund Program - aims to promote trade and investment partnership between Armenia and foreign enterprises. More than 100 enterprises applied for ESF loans, USD 3600,000 were granted to 12 of them;
The Export Development and Promotion Project - under this program export of products from Ararat, Artashat, Sardarapat canneries (food processing), Garun and Nubarashen companies (textile), "Armenian Programs", "Migma", "Algorithm" and "Sedit" (software) are heavily promoted.

Directions and structure of UMBA activities:

Union of Manufactures and Businessmen (Employers) of Armenia (UMB(E)A), founded on March 23, 1996, by The Founders Assembly. On May 15, 1999 the Second Assembly and on June 23, 2001 the third Assembly were held. UMB(E)A is a non-governmental organization with goals other than profit, which unites companies, corporations, and individual entrepreneurs. The membership of Union includes more than 400 individual members.
The Union is also well known for its participation in the improvement of economic legislation and protection of the local producer's interests, also for participation in the development of international business co-operation, and recovery of the lost co-operation between individual enterprises and companies and for creation of new economic and scientific-technical relations between businessmen from Armenia, CIS and other countries. UMB(E)A cooperates constructively with National Assembly and Government of RA and has its own accredited representative in the National Assembly. UMB(E)A closely co-operates with the number of Armenian public organizations including: Armenian Union of Merchants, The Banks' Association of Armenia, The Armenian Union of Economists, The Armenian Union of Entrepreneurs, The Engineering Academy of Armenia. With these entities agreements on co-operation and partnership have been signed having the goal to support and consolidate the process of Armenian business development.
The UMB(E)A Charter regulates organizational structure and the management of the Union. The managing bodies of UMB(E)A are: the Assembly of UMB(E)A; the Board of UMBA, the Management of the Union's Board; the President of UMB(E)A.

Public commissions of UMBA:

Public Commissions of UMB(E)A are permanently acting analytical centers, managed by the Union. The functions of an UMB(E)A Public Commission are the formation and analysis of manufacturers' and businessmen tasks and problems related to their activities and preparation of agenda for discussion in the Board of UMB(E)A or in the Managing Board. The general spheres of activities of UMB(E)A are included in 18 Public Commissions, assisting the entrepreneurship development: exports, protection of the domestic industrialists, Union foreign relations, foreign investors' assistance, businessmen legislative protection, etc., The functioning of the commissions is managed by the members of Managing Board of UMB(E)A by a public order.

International connections of UMBA:

Since 1997 the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen (Employers) of Armenia is a member of the International Congress of Manufacturers and Businessmen. UMB(E)A closely cooperates with the number of similar international organizations. Agreements on co-operation have been signed with the following organization: the Unions of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Russia, Ukraine, Belorus, Georgia; Chambers of Commerce of Greece, Poland, Romania, Argentina, Turkey; Federations and Associations of Lebanon, Egypt, Bulgaria; the Iran-Armenia Chamber of Commerce, French Confederation of Small and Medium Businesses, Lithuanian Union of Businessmen, American Council of Scientists and Engineers of Armenia and the "Sumitomo" corporation of Japan. In cooperation with Saint Mary's University the Union has established "Armenian-Canadian Business Center", which goal is the promotion of small and medium enterprises in Armenia. UMB(E)A has its representative office in the Russian Federation. Many members of the Union are representatives form different foreign countries. The title of Merited Member has been sentenced to 15 leading manufacturers and businessmen. In order to support the cooperation between representatives of Armenian and foreign businesses, business congresses has been organized: the Armenian-Russian Business Forum (October 29-31, 1997, Yerevan); the Armenian-Ukrainian Business Forum (July 22-25, 1998, Yerevan); the Armenian-Lebanese Business Forum (September 16-18, 1998, Beirut); the Armenian-Iranian Business Forum (November 19-26, 1998, Yerevan); the Armenian-Polish Business Forum (July 13-16, 1999, Warsaw); as well as the Armenian-French, the Armenian-Turkish, the Armenian-Greek, the Armenia-Argentine and others.


Main goals and objects of the NMBA:

Advocate for the interests of the domestic producer.
Support the governmental decisions that aid the development of businesses in Armenia.
Enforcing the self-confidence of businessmen and formation of the "class of entrepreneurs".
Advocate for the economic rights and legal interests of Union members.
Aid the national investment policy improvement, involvement of the foreign investment, development and successful realization of investment projects.
Create trustworthy relations with similar organizations, both local and international, stimulate forming cooperative atmosphere between Armenian enterprises and foreign businesses.
Participate actively in conception of projects for development of the Armenian economy, particularly legislative and sub-legislative acts, which support entrepreneurship, as well as participate in the independent analysis of these project-related issues.
